Provenance:
Private ownership, Germany.
In 1837-40 Preyer travelled to Munich and from there made excursions into the surrounding area in search of subjects for his painting. He explored the landscape by drawing - a rather untypical motif for the still-life painter. In the process, he produced several pen and ink drawings of reed- and willow-covered lakeshores, which can be seen as a preliminary study for a small panel that is now kept in the Rheydt Castle Museum.
