LARGE MAGNIFICENT PENDULUM CLOCK WITH ELEPHANT AND ALLEGORY OF ASIA.

Le Roy, Julien. Paris

Date: Mid 19th century.
Maker/Designer: Porcelain Samson, Paris.
Technique: Porcelain, decorated with colours. Fire-gilt bronze, and others.
Description: Oval base, openwork décor with rocailles and blossoms. On the upside naturalistically
designed with plants and soil. On top a large elephant carrying the elaborately designed
clock case on its back like a richly decorated saddle. The case with seashell décor and
flower tendrils, crowned by the allegory of Asia in the form of a woman in oriental
garments, with sceptre and censer. The dial with Roman numerals in blue and Arabic minute
track in black. 14-day pendulum movement with spring suspension and half-hour strike on
bell.
Measurement: 76,5x46x27cm.
Mark: Elephant with mark in the manner of Meissen. Dial inscr. "Julien Le Roy A Paris" (presumably Paris, 90, rue de Vaugirard 1820, Tardy p.406), movement inscr. "G.D.".
