PORCELAIN PAINTING OF BOYS PLAYING DICE GAME.

KPM. Berlin.

Date: 19th century.
Maker/Designer: After a painting by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo.
Technique: Porcelain, decorated with color.
Description: Three boys in front of a rocky wall. Two of them sit on the ground and play dice on a stone for coins. Another stands with a dog next to them, his gaze turned to the viewer as he bites into a fruit.
Signed 'Brödel' on the lower right. Alfred Brödel (1861 - 1927) trained at KPM Berlin, for which he then worked as a porcelain painter. He was also active in Lichte near Wallendorf and Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (both Thuringia).
Measurement: Plate size 14,5x21cm, frame size 31,5x38 cm.
Mark: Impressed scepter mark with K.P.M. Year letter somewhat indistinct, possibly B for 1902 or P for 1915.

The original painting by Murillo was made around 1675/80 and is now at the Bayerische
Staatsgemäldesammlungen - Alte Pinakothek in Munich.
