TWO ENSEMBLES OF RIDERS FROM THE CENTRE PIECE 'GEBURT DER SCHÖNHEIT'.

Maker/Designer: Draft Paul Scheurich, 1939.
Technique: Porcelain, white.
Description: The first ensemble as'Najade auf Hippokamp', with a nymph who is riding on the back of a
hippocampus out of the sea foam. The other one represents a 'Triton, Nereide umfassend'.
The creatures comprising a human upper body and a fish tail encompasses leg of the Nereid,
the companion of the god Poseidon an ihrem Bein. She is stretching her hands towards the
sky as if she is seeking for help to flee from its grasp.
Measurement: Height 40,5/54,5cm.
Mark: Sceptre mark, model number, indist. year 1949 and additional impressed marks.

The centrepiece 'Doe Geburt der Schönheit' was created based on the design by Paul Scheurich from 1939. A total of 15 objects are listed in the production books, the whereabouts of which were unknown for a long time. The theme of the centrepiece reflects Scheurich's interpretation of the "Venus Anadyomene", as he took it from Hesiod's Theogony. In it, the goddess Venus is born from the foam of the sea and is honoured by the Tritons and Nereids with gifts of pearls and treasures of the sea.
