LARGE TEA BOWL (CHAWAN) IN RED BLACK RAKU.

Origin: Japan.
Date: 19th c.
Technique: Brownish stoneware with chamotte with black-red glaze. In the glaze diagonal scratch marks as pattern.
Description: Irregular kutsugata shape, probably formed by hand (tebineri) and reworked on the well.
Further, hand formed foot ring, with spiral. Gold lacquer repairs of firing cracks. A raku
seal pressed into the base and a floral pattern engraved. Remains of a red owner seal near
the foot.
Measurement: H.8.3cm, Ø 14cm.
Condition B/C.

Provenance:
Collection Dr. Franz Haniel (1883-1965), since then bequest of the family estate.
