TEA BOWL (CHAWAN) WITH RICE STRAW ASH GLAZE.

Origin: Japan.
Date: 19th c.
Maker/Designer: Seto.
Technique: Light-colored stoneware with yellowish, transparent, shiny glaze. Multilayered crackling in different colors. Inside bluish-white drops from rice straw ash.
Description: Wide shape with vertically stepped walls. Lip compressed a bit to a square form. On wide
base ring, partly irregular. At the lip gold lacquer repairs. Smaller damages and cracks.
Measurement: H.8.6cm, Ø 13.8cm.
Condition B/C. Supplement: Not matching: Wooden box (kiribako). Inscription: "481 Ancient Japan Raku Chawan (Chojiro)", ??, Japan 13". Silk cushions and purple fukusa.


Provenance:
-Collection Dr. Franz Haniel (1883-1965), since then bequest of the family estate.
-Underneath two old collection labels: 32, 16, Japan, 300,-".
