OVAL PORCELAIN SUGAR BOWL WITH CHINOISERIES.

Meissen.
Date: Ca. 1723.
Technique: Porcelain, enriched in colours, painted in gold.
Description: Oval bowl with gilt notches that divide the exterior sides of the bowls in four evenly
wide sections. In these paintings Chinese in von Höroldt style, couples or groups. The
scenes feature the chase for a dragon, the children's game in a hammock, one scene with
tea ceremony and horned mythical creatures, the last one with Chinese man smoking a pipe.
On the lid four chinoiseries that feature tea and garden ceremonies. The gilt notches and
pieces are rare for Meissen services. It can be assumed that the small sugar bowl steams
from a tea service with this decor.
Measurement: 6,5x12x10cm.
Mark: KPM and swords mark, painted blue under the glaze.

Provenance:
Private collection Bavaria.

Literature:
Pietsch (ed.), Passion for Meissen, Stuttgart 2010. For a similar sugar bowl and the corresponding service with gilt notches see p. 84ff. no. 37, the bowl on p. 94.
