The artworks are drapo Vodou or voodoo flags. These flags were originally created for voodoo temples and depicted voodoo scenes and deities. This type of richly beaded flag was designed in the 1990s by Myrlande Constant, a former bridal dressmaker, and elevated to an art form in its own right.
Mireille Delismé (also spelled Delice) learned this art from Constant, who is her cousin. Her designs are grounded in the formal language of voodoo and, according to her, often appear in her dreams.
