MUELLER, OTTO
1874 Liebau/Silesia - 1930 Wroclaw
Title: Knabe mit Blattpflanzen (Knabe im Schilf).
Date: 1912/1945/1952.
Technique: Woodcut on thin copperprint paper.
Depiction Size: 28 x 37,5cm.
Sheet Size: 32 x 43,5cm.
Notation: Monogrammed (in the stick).
Condition:
Slight foxing in the margins. Sheet irregularly trimmed. Minimally discoloured in the former mat window. Minimal staining at the right edge. Verso remains of an old mounting (minimally bled through recto) as well as slight foxing and minimal bleeding through of the printing ink at the impasto areas. Otherwise good condition.
Presumably later print from the edition of about 400 copies printed by Maschka Mueller and her son Eugen Meyerhofer after 1945 and 1952, respectively.
Literature:
- Galerie Nierendorf (ed.): Otto Mueller zum hundertsten Geburtstag - Das graphische Gesamtwerk, Berlin 1974, cat. rais. no. 2, very probably 2/IIA: Two narrow notches can be seen at the left edge of the stick, but the notch at the right edge and the two deep notches reaching to the outline of the sheet are missing. At this point, however, the printing ink has been applied more thickly. The monogram has already been incised. These later prints, however, had dimensions of 50,5 x 65,5 cm.
