PENDULUM CLOCK "À LA GLOIRE D'HENRI IV".
Paris.
Date: Around 1800.
Technique: Chased and gilt bronze. White marble. Enamel dial.
Description: Rectangular stepped plinth on four profiled ball feet. The lowest pedestal step made of marble with gilt bronze applications. On it, next to the pendulum movement, the fully sculpted figurines of a woman in antique-style robes and a putto with the portrait of Henry IV in its hands. Above the dial a book with the first verses of the Henriade "Je chante ce héros qui régna sur la France. Et par droit de conquête et par droit de naissance".
Enamel dial with Roman numerals and Arabic minuterie. 14-day pendulum movement with thread suspension and half-hour strike on bell.
Measurement: 36x17x41cm.
Mark: On dial inscr. "De Belle Rue St. Honoré à Paris" (Rue Saint-Honoré, 1787-1800).

The design for this clock, dedicated to this historical theme, was probably part of a commission from Count d'Angiviller. The caretaker of the royal art possessions had an important series of sculptures, in honor of great men, made between 1776 and 1787.
