The ebenist Pierre Roussel left an extensive and very wide-ranging oeuvre of high quality.
Roussel was registered as a maître in the Paris Guild of Furniture Makers on August 21,
1745. Often his works show fine floral marquetry, as in the lady's bureau here. Roussel's
works can be found in the most important Parisian collections such as for example that of
the Louvre or that of the Musée Jaquemart-André. The Almanach de Vray Mérite from 1769
lists him as "l'un des premiers ébénistes", one of the first French ebenists (Kjellberg
(1989) p.729).
