 RARE PORCELAIN CUP AND SCAUER SHOWING THE 'WONDER OF ZAANDAM'. 
 
Origin: China. Export porcelain.
Dynasty: Qing dynasty.
Date: Qianlong period (1735-1796).
Technique: Export porcelain, painted in the Netherlands with enamel.
Description: The depiction of the 'Cruelty of a Bull', based on Dutch prints, shows an angry bull
trampling on the man lying on the ground and his woman whirled through the air, giving
premature birth to a baby. All this happened on August 29, 1647, as noted on the reverse,
in a place where the boys usually fly kites, as is also shown. Like a miracle is the only
survivor the baby.
Measurement: Cup height 4.6cm, Ø 6.5m, saucer Ø 11cm.
Signature: Underneath each with the date of the incident in black stain: 29 Augustus 1647.
Condition A/B. Lip with minute chips, somewhat rubbed.
