When Richard Müller was hired as a professor for drawing at the art academy Dresden at only 26 years of age in 1990 he was an internationally known artist. In 1897 he won the Prox de Rome and recieved in the year of his assumption of office a golden medal on the world fair in Paris. Next to Max Klinger who introduced him to etching, he is one of the most significant symbolists in Saxony. In his unusual, imaginative and often surreal depictions Müller picks up topics such as erotic, transience, dram images and longing for nature. For his brilliant and meticulous technique he follows the way of the old masters without following a specific art movement. To develop a very own painting technique he is inspired by differens styles. This way he gives his works with known topics new exhiting effec as well as different possibilities for associations. during his thirty day teaching at the academy - from 1933 to 1935 he is also headmaster - Max Ackermann and George Grosz amongst otheres were his students. But like no other Müller influences the artists of the new objectivity with his tendencies towards precision and grotesque.
