After his study years at the academies in Berlin and Munich, Jonas had worked in different cities before he set out on a journey to the island Corsica for several months in 1856. The landscape there had impressed the painter very sustainably so that he became one of the first who made the motifs of the island his subject. With the works he subsequently created, he was able to exhibit at the academy exhibitions of the following decades.
