Mounting: Mounted on canvas, canvas laid down on card. Measurement: 46,5 x
41,5cm. Notation: Signed and dated left centrally: Rudolf Schiestl 1903.
Frame/Pedestal: Framed behind glass.
Condition:
Sheet overall spotted, light-stained, slightly creased and stained. Circumferential faded traces of an old framing. In the corners as well as in the upper centre numerous holes from drawing board pins. Underlying canvas stained and fraying at the margins. Verso remains of old mountings.
Frame: Overall in good condition.
The motif of the beggar sitting on the ground with his hat in his folded hands and his shirt open can also be found in a print entitled "Blinder Bettler" by Rudolf Schiestl. The present print is thus a study for further works in which the artist experiments with facial expression as well as posture.
