SMALL WOODEN CABINET CHEST WITH MOVING SCENES.
South Germany.
Date: Early 18th c.
Technique: Pine interior, dark-stained fruitwood outside. The slats covered with golden metal sheet. Coloured prints on a black ground. The drawers lined with marbled paper.
Description: Rectangular body with two frontal doors. The inner cassettes and the fronts of the seven
drawers are decorated with humorous scenes from everyday life or hunting. These cut-out
and coloured prints are each laminated on a black ground. Hinged handle on the top.
Measurement: 19,5x18,5x13cm.
The metal foil on some of the mouldings has been lost.
Provenance:
Private collection, Munich.
A comparable cabinet can be found, for example, in the collection of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg, inv. no. VK7303.
