TWO LACQUER LIDDED BOXES.

Origin: Japan.
Dynasty: 19th c.
Description: a) Flat octagonal lacquer box with beveled corners. Wood with black lacquer and hiramaki e in gold and silver. On the slip lid a flowering camellia branch with paradise flycatcher. Lacquered red inside. H.4,2cm, 11x10,5cm. Wooden box (kiribako) not matching.
b) Oval lidded box with mallow blossoms and lucky symbols. Wood with wickerwork and dark red lacquer. H.10,5cm, 10x7,5cm. Matching wooden box and cloth bag (shifuku) from Sarasa fabric.
Condition A/B.

Provenance:
Collection Dr. Franz Haniel (1883-1965), since then bequest of the family estate.
