RARE WOODEN AUTOMATIC CLOCK.
Schmidt, Wenzelslaus. Elbogen (Loket)
Date: Ca. 1790.
Technique: Wood, partly ebonised, fire-gildedbronze, enamel plaque, iron, glass, etc.
Description: High rectangular box with frontal glazing, sound openings at the back. Columns on the
sides. The fire-gilt front plate with floral applications. Enamelled dial with Arabic
hours and Arabic minutes. Above the 12 small lever for changing the strike from N (Petite
Sonnerie) to R (Grande Sonnerie). Above the dial an oval plaque with a river landscape, in
front of it a mock pendulum in the shape of a river god. Four-quarter strike on two bells,
repeater, going train over chain and fusee, striking train over barrels, pear pendulum.
Measurement: 52x33,5x13,5cm.
Mark: Marked 'Wenzelslaus Schmidt in Elbogen' on the dial.
