This is how Siegfrid Weiß describes Wilhelm Nerenz from Berlin in the encyclopaedia of the Düsseldorf school of painting. He followed his teacher Wilhelm Schadow to the Düsseldorf Academy in 1833-36, where the small and extremely fine panel shown here was created during these years.
