GRAFF, ANTON

Title: Portrait of Emanuel Friedrich Burkhard de Leger (1732-1806), Secret Chamberlain at the Court of Elector Friedrich Augsut I. of Saxony.
Technique: Oil on canvas.
Mounting: Relined.
Measurement: 66 x 48,5cm.
Frame/Pedestal: Framed.
Another version of Graff's portrait of Emmanuel de Leger with almost identical dimensions is included in the Dresdener Gemäldegalerie.

Cf. Literature:
E. Berckhagen: Anton Graff - Leben und Werk. Berlin 1967, p. 242, no. 863.

Provenance:
Private ownership, Germany.

Cerfiticate:
Helmut Börsch-Supan, Berlin 05.05.2010 (copy).

"The present version must be regarded as Graff's own work, because of the powerful brushwork, the partly impasto application of paint and the vivid modelling of the face. The intense attention to the viewer is underlined by the slight inclination of the head to the left. Not office and social position, but humanity is in the foreground".
