SMALL HAT SHOP WITH ACCESSORIES.
France.
Date: Ca. 1910.
Technique: Wood, textiles, porcelain.
Description: The large shelf with counter at the top ending with a curved gable. Below it, a shelf with
small model heads and various hats as well as numerous shelves with small scarves,
ribbons, etc. In addition to numerous other hats on stepped shelves, ten hat racks with
elaborately crafted miniature hats.
Measurement: The shelf 54,5x39x22cm.
Provenance:
Private collection Bavaria, acquired from art dealer Senger, Bamberg.
The hat shop was originally a grocery shop, as the label "Epicerie" above reveals. Typical for French doll's houses, kitchens and shops is the relatively narrow format. Locked in a transportable box, the toys could be taken by the children on the long summer holidays in the country. The porcelain heads with different hat models are something special. All kinds of finery, ribbons and hat boxes complete the rich furnishings of the shop, which was the precious toy of an upper middle-class or aristocratic household.
