Origin: China.
Dynasty: Qing dynasty.
Date: 18th/19th c.
Technique: White jade with purple and green parts and a yellow brownish skin.
Description: Shoulao is standing on a rocky plateau in front of a mountain range with pines. He leans
on a gnarled staff and is holding a peach in his right hand. Behind him, a servant boy
carries a stack of books. On the back a deer, a crane and lingzhi mushrooms in relief.
Measurement: Height 7.6cm, width 14.5cm, depth 5.2cm.
Frame/Pedestal: Fittingly carved wooden base on four feet.

The artisan cleverly incorporated the different colored sections of the stone into the
design. Probably this piece was used as a brush rest on a scholars' desk.
