MONUMENTAL HEAD OF A BUDDHA.
Origin: Thailand.
Dynasty: Ayutthaya period (1350-1767).
Date: 15th/16th c.
Technique: Yellowish sandstone partly with dark patina.
Description: The countenance is introverted, the look is downward, eyes and lips are bordered with fine
lines. The eyebrows swing from the root of the nose beneath the high forehead. The hair is
shown as small round spikes covering the head and the ushnisha. The earlobes are elongated
from the use of heavy jewelry.
Measurement: H.55cm.
Frame/Pedestal: Mounted on a base.
