Date: Ca. 1800.
Technique: Glass painting in églomisé technique with silver and gold foil, gouache, partly backed with silk fabrics.
Description: The portrait of the bishop standing at a table as a silhouette portrait in a rectangular
field. In his hand a document and in front of him the mitre. At the top right,
mirror-inverted, his Würzburg bishop's coat of arms.
Measurement: In frame 29 x 23.5cm.
Provenance:
Private collection Würzburg.
Georg Karl von Fechenbach was elected Bishop of Würzburg in March 1795. He was the last prince-bishop of Würzburg following the resolutions of the Peace of Lunéville in February 1801, which abolished the ecclesiastical principalities.
