STUCCO PANEL WITH NYMPHS.

Date: Ca. 1937.
Maker/Designer: Siegmund Schütz for KPM, Berlin.
Technique: Stucco, cast.
Description: Smooth, vertical rectangular panel with two female nudes in dancing poses in bas-relief.
Measurement: 57 x 45cm.
Mark: Collection label verso.

The stucco panel presented here is the only surviving piece from a set of four, created by the porcelain modeller at KPM Berlin Siegmund Schütz as a model for wall reliefs in bisque porcelain. Together with the three other designs titeled "Tanzende" (dancers), it was displayed in the sales rooms of the furniture manufacturer Pössenbacher in Munich (confirmed by Dr. Claudia Kanowski, curator of the Museum of Decorative Arts Berlin).

Siegmund Schütz was intensively interested in the subject of bas-reliefs throughout his life. This is evidenced, among other things, by his numerous medal designs, but also by the "Arkadia" service he created together with Trude Petri.
