LOUIS XV PENDULUM CLOCK ON CONSOLE WITH CHINOISERIES.
Date: Around 1760-70.
Maker/Designer: Clock case Balthazar Lieutaud, Paris. Dial Gerard, Metz.
Technique: Fire-gilt bronze applications, coloured lacquer paintings, Enamel dial.
Description: Curved console richly adorned with volute décor. High rectangular, curved corpus with
corresponding applications. Console, case and top with Vernis-Martin-décor in the form of
fine polychrome chinoiseries with gold lacquer on a dark green fond. Round dial consisting
of twelve cartouches with Roman numerals and Arabic minuterie grouped around a round
centrepiece. Square shaped 14-day pendulum movement with anchor escapement, thread
suspension and half-hour and hour strike on an overhead bell.
Measurement: Height incl. console approx.123cm, width 45cm.
Mark: Dial inscribed. "Gerard Pere A Metz" (Metz, approx.1765, Loomes p.297). Case stamped on the back "B. Lieutaud" (Balthazar Lieutaud, Paris, 1720 - 1780).
Enclosed: P&K, as well as key for the front door.
