Technique: Oil on canvas.
Measurement: 97 x 129,5cm.
Notation: Signed lower right: Bernard Schultze. Also signed, titled and dated verso: Bernard Schultze 1996, "drohendes Unheil".
Frame: Framed (101,5 x 135cm).
Condition: For a condition report, please contact Ms. Janine Breidenbend at j.breidenbend@van-ham.com.
It may be a coincidence, but the structure and title of this painting (impending doom) show a proximity to Max Ernst's famous painting "Der Hausengel" (1937), which he painted in reaction to the Spanish Civil War. Whether this proximity is intentional or not, the suggestive power that Schultze's paintings acquire from the interplay of hypnotic colour compositions and associative titles is impressively demonstrated here.
