MONUMENTAL AND MAGNIFICENT CARTEL CLOCK WITH THE CHARIOT OF VENUS.

Maker/Designer: Model presumably by Jacques Caffiéri (attribution).
Technique: Gilt bronze.
Description: The impressive and dynamically decorated case, with strong leaf shapes, displays the
resting Venus below the dial, as she is covered or uncovered by a small Cupid. Above, the
clock case crowned by the chariot of Venus, pulled by doves and with a small cupid in it.
Dial with twelve enamel cartouches with Roman numerals. 14-day pendulum movement with
thread suspension and half-hour strike on bell.
Measurement: 95x56x18cm.
