RENAISSANCE-STYLE IRON CEREMONIAL CASKET.

France.
Date: Ca. 1850.
Technique: Iron forged and hallmarked. Lined with red velvet on the inside.
Description: Rectangular body with scalloped base. Decorated with a leaf frieze, the edge strip of the
hinged lid is similarly designed. The straight body features a casket decor made of
twisted rods with large flowers on leaf ornaments in their centre. The spaces between the
panels are decorated with applied leaf festoons. The top of the lid features leaf
garlands, flowers and tendrils, as well as a small rectangular plaque in the centre.
Measurement: 24x33x24cm.

Provenance:
Michel Rullier Collection. Fraysse & Associés auction, Drouot, Paris, 9th February 2011, lot 112.

The casket, with its exceptional ironwork, could have been crafted as a masterpiece.
